Rockland County Government’s Sain Building closed

Sain Building

NEW CITY – With all Rockland County offices that were once housed in the Sain Building in New City moved to new quarters in Pomona, the old structure is officially closed.

County Executive Edwin Day, who wants to sell the facility, called it a “six-story paperweight.”

He is hoping the county legislature will declare the building as surplus and allow it to be sold to a developer who wants to knock it down and build a two-story assisted living complex for seniors on the property.

Day would like to apply some of the $4.51 million selling price toward settlements of expired county union contracts. “We have an opportunity to give our dedicated employees a raise,” he said. “Let’s take that opportunity.”
