Retired cop accused of inappropriate contact

Thatcher

POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie man was arrested by Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies on an allegation of inappropriate sexual contact. Wayne Thatcher, 64, was charged with forcible touching as a misdemeanor.

The investigation that led to the arrest was initiated when a woman filed a complaint and is independent of previous cases that led to Thatcher’s arrest and guilty plea earlier this year.

If anyone has information about this case or similar incidents involving Thatcher, they are urged to call the sheriff’s office Detective Bureau at 845-486-3852 and ask for Det. Harris. Anyone with information may also contact the sheriff’s office tipline at 845-605-2583 or at dcsotips@gmail.com. All calls will be kept confidential.

Thatcher is reported to be a retired Poughkeepsie town police officer and an attorney.
