Town of Bethel earns Clean Energy Community designation

WHITE LAKE – The Town of Bethel has been designated as a Clean Energy Community by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, recognizing its leadership in reducing energy use, cutting costs and driving clean energy locally.

Supervisor Daniel Sturm said Bethel had to meet four of 10 high-impact clean energy actions identified by NYSERDA.

“We did a policy to track all the energy uses in any of our town buildings and this way it makes it available to the public to see how we are doing,” Sturm said. “We installed electrical vehicle charging stations right in the middle of Kauneonga Lake to help people with electric cars to charge up their cars.”

The town also adopted a unified solar permit process and completed energy code enforcement training for code compliance officers and other town officials.
