Woman arrested for killing teen with her car

KINGSTON – A Kerhonkson woman was arrested on Friday on a charge of criminally negligent homicide for killing a teen with her car.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office reported that on June 22, Jennifer Curry, 17, of Kingston, was struck as she walked on the shoulder of the road on Lucas Avenue Extension and Spring Lake Drive in the Town of Ulster.

It was determined that a car operated by Carol Melamed, 69, had been driving on the shoulder of the road, striking the teen. Police said that and other factors contributed to the accident.

On Friday Melamed, accompanied by her attorney, surrendered to detectives at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center.  She was arraigned in Kingston City Court and released on her own recognizance to appear at a later date.
