“A Brush with Kindness” for Newburgh Police HQ

West Point cadets volunteer with Newburgh officers to spruce up the city police station

NEWBURGH –West Point cadets joined Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh as volunteers who teamed up with Newburgh City Police to put a fresh coat of paint on the city’s police station.

Formerly scuffed and stained walls are now bright and clean, making for a boost of moral and a more welcoming environment.

“Our work at Habitat Newburgh is about building vibrant communities, and the opportunity to help the Newburgh Police Department out with this project is a perfect fit with that goal,” said Habitat Executive Director Cathy Collins.

Habitat Newburgh’s “A Brush with Kindness” program helps low-income homeowners with minor repairs. In exchange, the homeowners are asked to make an affordable payment and contribute sweat equity by working with volunteers on the repair project.

Newburgh Habitat has completed 79 decent and affordable homes in one of the most distressed urban areas in the country and the largest contiguous historical district in the state.
