Orange County DA provides funding for MSMC anti-sexual assault program

NEWBURGH – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler has taken the “It’s On Us” anti-sexual assault program to the next level by providing $3,500 to Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.

The grant will help support the college’s efforts to raise awareness of sexual assault by paying for literature and other materials with anti-sexual assault messages as well as to support speakers and anti-sexual assault assemblies.

The money comes from funds forfeited to the DA’s office from criminal activity.

Hoovler plans on providing similar program funding at SUNY Orange and West Point in the future, but he targeted the Mount first.

“Because Mount Saint Mary’s has a resident population with dormitories, we are focusing the first part of our efforts on that type of setting because there have been incidents in the past where there have been allegations,” he said.

Last December, Hoovler launched the first countywide “It’s On Us” campaign in the nation emphasizing that should anyone suspect improper activities going on, they should report them.
