Newburgh man charged with animal cruelty

NEWBURGH – The Hudson Valley SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Division arrested a Newburgh man on a charge of animal cruelty.

Stephen Sampson, 27, allegedly permitted his eight-month-old female Staffordshire Terrier to be tied in 93-degree heat, unshaded, causing its death while in captivity.  SPCA officers found the dead dog with its body temperature of over 112 degrees.

If convicted, Sampson faces up to one year, a $1,000 fine and inclusion on the county’s animal abuse registry with probation on each count.
