Yonkers gardens to be refurbished with Scenic Hudson grant

YONKERS – Scenic Hudson will provide a grant to the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy in Yonkers to provide for upgrades at the facility, which is the most visited venue in the city and rivals the number of visitors to Westchester County’s Playland Park in Rye.

The grant was announced by Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan on Wednesday.

“We have given a $250,000 grant to upgrade the waterworks for this,” Sullivan said.  “They are beautiful reflecting pools that are part of this landscape garden and those waterworks and pools are in great disrepair. This is going to revitalize them for the next generation to enjoy, this beautiful urban park in Yonkers that has beautiful access to the river.”

The contribution is being made in memory of Kathryn Wasserman Davis, who was 105 when she died in 2013. She was a philanthropist, environmentalist, advocate for world peace and supporter of Scenic Hudson, who lived in Tarrytown.
