Vassar College’s smoke-free campus policy takes effect next month

POUGHKEEPSIE – Vassar College’s new campus-wide smoke-free, tobacco-free policy takes effect on July 1.  The ban includes students, faculty, employees and visitors.

“The health impacts of secondhand smoke are well-documented,” said Christopher Roellke, dean of the college.  “We are doing this to ensure a healthy campus environment for the entire community.”

The college has prohibited smoking inside buildings and residential houses for some time, but the new policy includes all outdoor spaces on the campus. The policy applies to all tobacco and smoking products, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, chewing tobacco, and any non-FDA-approved nicotine delivery devices or products such as e-cigarettes.
