Mysteryland went off without a hitch, sheriff says

BETHEL – The Mysteryland Festival held at the historic Bethel Woods site in Bethel went smoothly this weekend.

Tens of thousands of people of all ages attended the festival, which was orderly and peaceful, said Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff.

“They were a very well-mannered crowd,” Schiff said.  “I walked through the crowd; I saw the kids. They were just there to have a good time. It was just wonderful to see.”

The organization that hosted the all-weekend event had hired its own security to keep order.

Several people were arrested by State Police outside the venue on a variety of drug charges.

People leaving the event caused some traffic backup on roads, including Route 55, through midday Monday.
