Gunther tours Sullivan BOCES, discusses funding for nutrition programs

Gunther dines with students

LIBERTY – State Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburgh) is a registered nurse by profession so she knows the value of nutritional meals. With that background, she met with Sullivan BOCES officials and students on Thursday to discuss healthy school meals and their funding.

Those meals are very important to school children, Gunther said.

“When you talk about education and they don’t have the appropriate diet, it isn’t great for the children,” she said.

Gunther said at present, the state pays six-cents per school meal. They are pushing for an extra 20-cents per meal, which does not translate to a lot of money when the entire state budget is considered, she said.
