Husband indicted in shotgun shooting of his wife

WHITE PLAINS – A Cortlandt Manor man was arraigned Thursday in Westchester County Court for allegedly firing a shotgun at close range, severely wounding her.

Mario Vallorosi, 76, of 10 Udell Court in Cortlandt Manor was indicted on charged of attempted murder and two counts of assault, all felonies.

At about 4 a.m. on June 15, Vallorosi allegedly shot his Genevieve, 74, in their home. Their 43-year-old son, who was also home at the time of the shooting, heard the noise and found his mother lying on a sofa in an upstairs computer room.

He called police with state troopers responding.

The victim was transported to Westchester Medical Center with severe injuries to her abdomen and chest from bird shot. She remained in the hospital for 45 days and continues to be in serious condition in a nursing facility.

District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Mrs. Vallorosi was “a vibrant member of her community who enjoyed socializing and working with special needs school children, both of which seemed to be the catalyst for the defendant’s actions.”

Vallorosi remains in the Westchester County Jail.  If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in state prison.
