Westchester lawmaker wants county to look into soft drink ‘price gouging’ at county airport

WHITE PLAINS – If you want to buy a soda from a vending machine at Westchester County Airport, you had better have a lot of change with you.

County Legislator Sheila Marcotte would like the public works department, which operates the airport, to look into the cost of soft drinks, which she finds outrageously high.

“You can’t bring in soda,” she told a Board of Legislator’s committee.  “Sodas are $3; it’s like price gouging.”

DPW officials promised to look into the issue. The vending machines are provided through a contractor.

Food and beverages at airport concessions are universally higher than normal street prices.
