Fireworks spectacular raised money for Walkway Over the Hudson

A sellout crowd packed the Walkway Over the Hudson
to watch fireworks on the 4th of July

HIGHLAND – About 4,000 spectators paid admission to watch July 4th fireworks from Walkway Over the Hudson on Thursday night. The annual fundraiser offers birds-eye views of the pyrotechnic display put on each summer by the City of Poughkeepsie.

Delighted families watched the colorful rockets explode over the river, which were launched from a barge floating between the Walkway and the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Walkway organization, which supports operations of the bridge under auspices of the NYS Parks Dept.

New amenities will be installed when the Walkway officially connects with the Dutchess County rail trail this Autumn. An elevator on the Poughkeepsie side is expected to be completed by November 2013, followed by a visitor's center.
