Fatal fire in Port Jervis

PORT JERVIS – Authorities are investigating a fire in the City of Port Jervis late Tuesday morning that claimed the life of one person.
The fire in a single-family residence at 8 Mountain Avenue was called in at 10:48 a.m.

City Police located a 38-year-old man outside the residence with burn injuries. He was taken to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis.
Once inside the residence, police and firefighters discovered the body of a middle age woman.

The fire and surrounding circumstances are under investigation. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and State Police Crime Scene Unit are assisting city police with the investigation.

The fire was brought under control by the Port Jervis Fire Department. The building sustained major damage.
