Police take man into custody after all-day standoff

POUGHKEEPSIE – The hostage standoff that began at 10:30 this morning ended shortly after 5 p.m. when the suspect believed to be Antoine Flowers, 33, released his four-year-old son from the house in which he was hold up, and then was taken into custody by Poughkeepsie City Police.

Police Chief Ronald Knapp said the incident began when Flowers allegedly stabbed two females, a woman and her daughter. He did not identify them or say how old they are. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. The chief said the younger woman had some sort of relationship with Flowers.

Flowers kept police at bay in a house on Manitou Avenue in Poughkeepsie while an area school was locked down for much of the day as a precautionary move to protect the students.
