Orange County to purchase three building adjacent to SUNY Newburgh campus

GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature is headed toward authorizing a $3.5 million bond to purchase three buildings next to the SUNY Orange campus in Newburgh.

Two committees of the legislature have approved the purchase of the Masonic Temple, American Legion Hall and YMCA buildings.

Legislator Leigh Benton said the historic buildings will, in time, be remodeled inside for their new purposes.

“Some of them would be for classrooms, the Masonic Lodge potentially for the theater and fine arts and I believe the YMCA, could be used for the governor’s new agenda of the Start Up New York program,” Benton said.

The full legislature will vote on the purchase Thursday.
