Two men charged with killing Narrowsburg woman four years ago

NAROWSBURG – Two men have been arrested and charged with killing a former member of the Sullivan West School Board who was found buried under the rubble of her burned out home that collapsed.

Catherine Novak, 41, was found dead in the basement of her home on December 13, 2008.

State Police have been investigating the fire and death for the last four years and on Thursday announced the arrests of two men.

Scott Sherwood, 40, of Lindenhurst, NY was arrested on September 27 and charged with one count of second-degree murder. He was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.

Also arrested on September 27 was Paul Novak, 45, of Palm Coast, Florida, who was taken into custody by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office as a fugitive from justice from New York on charges of two counts of second-degree murder and one count of arson.

Novak appeared in Flagler County Circuit Court where he was remanded without bail pending extradition proceedings.
