Search for man who jumped off Newburgh-Beacon Bridge continues

NEWBURGH – Emergency responders continued searching the Hudson River between Newburgh and Beacon on Friday, looking for a man who jumped off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge at 7 p.m. Thursday.

A trooper was able to reach the man at mid-span, grabbed a hold of him, but couldn’t keep his grasp when the man jumped over the railing.

Fire and rescue craft searched the river in the vicinity of the bridge Thursday night and resumed the search on Friday. A state police helicopter was brought in for a while to look for a body from the air.
