New Jersey man killed in Middletown ID’ed by police

MIDDLETOWN – The New Jersey man killed outside a Middletown bar early Saturday morning has been identified as Allan Cardona, 46, of Hackensack.

Shortly after the incident, police arrested Kevin Conklin, 23, of Middletown, and charged him with first-degree manslaughter. Cardona was temporarily living on Route 211 West in Middletown and also had relatives in the Middletown area.

Police said the two men were in the West Gate Bar on West Main Street for a while before the incident. There was no known prior relationship between the two.

On Saturday, police said Cardona was found unresponsive outside the bar. He was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center where he died from injuries believed to have been caused when he was struck by Conklin.

Police did not reveal if a weapon was used.

Conklin is in the Orange County Jail on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.
