Dutchess County post-Sandy update

County Phone System

Dutchess County Government VOIP phone system is still down for incoming calls due to issues with Verizon SIP Trunk Services stemming from Central Offices in NYC as a result of Hurricane Sandy. This problem is also impacting thousands of customers, from various telephone services carriers, throughout the Northeast. County officials are working with Verizon Management to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

All county offices are open. County residents can contact departments in person, via email, or through the County’s website www.dutchessny.gov. County employees do have the limited ability to make outgoing calls, therefore if residents contact a department via email and include their phone number, they can receive a phone call back from the department.

Road conditions/Power Outages

Nearly all County roads are open, county public works crews are working to open remaining roadways. Public Works crews will be clearing storm debris from roadsides over the next two to three weeks.

Central Hudson and NYSEG have crews addressing downed power lines. Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra travel time.

Health & Safety

The Dutchess County Department of Health is evaluating many areas of power outages primarily in the eastern and southeastern parts of Dutchess County. They are specifically focused on public water supplies and sewage treatment facilities. A number of outages have been reported and a number of facilities have been able to continue operations on generators however a few facilities have no access to generators and are being closely monitored for any failures.

All residents are reminded to exercise caution when utilizing generators. Always keep generators outdoors and as far away from your home as possible, at least 25 feet away.
