Schumer urges Pfizer to attract biotech companies to its Rockland campus

PEARL RIVER – As Pfizer plans to downscale its Pearl River pharmaceutical production operations, US Senator Charles Schumer has urged company officials to seek other bio-tech or high-tech companies to purchase the property rather than let it “go to waste.”

Pfizer wants to sell its massive campus and lease back a portion for its own use. He has already met with top company officials and told them he supports retaining the site for high-tech uses.

“The Hudson Valley and its fast-growing technology industry are synonymous with Pfizer’s Pearl River campus and it should stay that way for years to come,” Schumer said while at the Rockland facility on Wednesday. “As Pfizer considers new developers to buy this highly specialized facility and its first-rate job and manufacturing space, it is critical to Hudson Valley businesses, the region’s workforce and the local economy that up-and-coming biotechnology and innovative firms all this campus home.”
