Port Jervis man drowns in Delaware River

PORT JERVIS – A Port Jervis man drowned in the Delaware River late Friday afternoon.

Authorities said the man was in the river off Port Jervis when he became distressed. A Good Samaritan was able to get him in a boat and bring him to the Matamoras, PA side of the river to a waiting ambulance. He was rushed to Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, where he died, officials said.

Port Jervis fire and police departments were called to the scene on the New York site of the river during the rescue operation.
