Dutchess Dems want governor to veto state redistricting plan

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Democratic Party called on Governor Cuomo to veto the proposed redistricting plan for the state legislature. The governor has already said he would nix the plan because it is too political.

Party Chairwoman Elisa Sumner criticized the Assembly plan for lumping the City of Poughkeepsie with municipalities across the Hudson – Lloyd and Marlborough. She called that “pathetic sophistry at best.” The City of Beacon is thrown into the same district and the towns of Red Hook and Rhinebeck are placed in a predominantly Ulster County Assembly district.

She said the plan “becomes even more laughable” when the Town and City of Poughkeepsie are separated with the town being joined with the City of Hudson.

Sumner said on Friday the governor should veto the plan “for the sake of the people of New York.”
