MONTICELLO – Police are investigating a burglary at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in the Village of Monticello in which a Sefer Torah was stolen.

The holy scroll was described as having a blue mantel on it.

Village Police said the break in occurred between 4 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Entry to the synagogue appears to have been gained through a rear window.

Anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the stolen Torah is asked to call Monticello Village Police at 845-794-4422 or 845-791-TIPS.

The State Police are assisting Monticello Police in the investigation.
