Kingston man charged with felony assault air rifle incident

KINGSTON –  Police in Kingston arrested a Kingston man Monday morning on a charge that he allegedly shot another man in the back of the head with an air rifle.

The victim sustained an injury from the 9 a.m. shooting. He was attended to by ambulance personnel and opted to go to his personal doctor.

Detectives and officers determined the shot had come from the upstairs apartment at 15 Prospect Street and that is where they located Mark Winters of that address. They also found two air rifles in the apartment, which they took for evidence.

Winters, 22, was charged with felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor second-degree reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in city court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
