Legislative committee approves new sick time payout for Ulster County managers

KINGSTON -- The Health and Personnel Committee of the Ulster County Legislature has given its approval to County Executive Michael Hein’s proposal to limit the number of days to be paid out for unused vacation and sick time to management employees when they leave their county jobs.

Committee Chairman Robert Aiello supports the measure because current employees would not be impacted.

“They put in a long, hard career and they aren’t abusing time and that’s part of their benefit package or salary is part of it,” Aiello said. To take that away, that wouldn’t be right. And, Michael Hein didn’t do that; he protected the current managerial staff.”

Assuming the full legislature approves the new plan, it would apply to new management personnel hired after April 1, 2012.
