Veteran DSS worker named new Ulster commissioner

Iapoce

KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Michael Hein has named Michael Iapoce as the new commissioner of the Department of Social Services. Iapoce, an attorney, is currently supervising social services attorney and counsel to the commissioner. He has worked for DSS for the past 18 years.

Hein said Iapoce is the ideal candidate for the post who has the “credentials, experience and demeanor” for the job.

He meets what the county is looking for, “which is the ability to balance the delivery of essential services to some of our most vulnerable citizens with the absolute essential nature of protecting property taxpayers to make sure there is no fraud, waste or abuse,” Hein said.

County Legislature Health and Personnel Committee Chairman Robert Aiello said Iapoce is “well respected by his colleagues and his understanding of the day-to-day needs of the department, and the people it serves.”

Iapoce’s appointment must be confirmed by the county legislature and approved by the state.
