Murder under investigation in Middletown


Twyman

MIDDLETOWN – City Police are investigating a homicide that occurred on Cottage Street in Middletown Sunday night. Police identified the victim as Arthur Twyman, 54, of Cottage Street in Middletown.

The victim was a sex offender, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services online registry. Twyman was convicted on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse in connection with a July 1992 incident in the Village of Ossining involving a 17-year-old female.

Police were called to the scene around 8:20 p.m. on a report of shots fired. They found a man shot dead on Cottage Street near Wickham Avenue. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police are investigating and interviewing several people.

Middletown Police are asking anyone who might have information about the case to call them at 845-343-3151. Anyone who was in the area around 8:20 p.m., shortly after the start of the Super Bowl halftime, and believes they may have been someone related to the investigation, is asked to call the police.

City Police are being assisted in the investigation by State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
