Poughkeepsie Council approves PILOT for affordable housing

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie Commons affordable housing project has been approved for a PILOT agreement by the common council.

The Payments in Lieu of Taxes plan will mean the taxing jurisdictions will receive the equivalent of taxes, even though the project will be operated by a not-for-profit agency.

Council Chairwoman Gwen Johnson said the project will contain 71 units.

“You are going to have 47, one-bedroom apartments for seniors and 24 units for disabled veterans,” Johnson said.

Rents will be on a sliding scale based on income.
