| Cost of groceries down in Ulster County |
|
KINGSTON – The cost of feeding an Ulster County family of four dropped by $4.21 over the last three weeks. The total shopping cart cost $231.45 was a two percent decline from the previous survey. The marketbasket survey is intended to provide county residents with information regarding fluctuations in the local cost of retail food by periodic comparisons of food costs at three chain supermarkets. The items in the survey are based on the USDA’s Moderate Cost Family Food Plan. Categories include Grain Products; Meats and Fish; Dairy; Fresh Fruits and Vegetables; Processed Fruits and Vegetables; and Beverages.
