Dutchess fire departments receive federal funding

WASHINGTON – Over $286,000 in federal funding is coming to the Beacon, Beekman, New Hackensack, Pleasant Valley and LaGrange fire departments through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

The money will be used to upgrade their communications systems and improve interoperability to help them respond to emergencies more effectively.

“This is an important investment for firefighters in Dutchess County,” said US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. “It is critical that our fire departments across the county can communicate with each other as they respond to emergencies.” She said the grant will help them update their equipment so first responders can respond “Quickly, effectively and safely to emergencies in our communities.”
