Man who absconded from drug trial is arrested

POUGHKEEPSIE – A man, who absconded from his trial in Dutchess County Court and was found guilty on drug charges, has been apprehended in New Windsor.

The Poughkeepsie City Police Department’s Neighborhood Recovery Unit along with the Hudson Valley Safe Streets Gang Task Force attempted to locate Michael Williams, who had an active bench warrant for his arrest for third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Williams was located on Thursday in an apartment at Southgate Village Apartments in the Town of New Windsor. Poughkeepsie Police were assisted by the FBI, State Police and New Windsor Police.

Williams surrendered without incident at 8:30 p.m. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

Sentencing on the drug charge is set for next month.
