Grand jury indicts man in armed confrontation with cop

Ward

GOSHEN – An Orange County grand jury has indicted a New York City man on two counts of attempted murder in connection with an incident where he struggled with a New Windsor Town police officer and the officer shot him.

The grand jury also investigated the officer’s actions and found he was justified in the shooting.

The officer had spotted a gun on the passenger when he pulled over a car on Route 32 on January 14 and order the man out.  A struggle ensured with Jardell Ward, 24, and the officer fired two shots from his service weapon, striking and wounding Ward.

Ward was also indicted on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer, criminal possession of stolen property, endangering the welfare of a child and false personation.
