Schumer urges creation of official boater inspection sticker system on Hudson

WASHINGTON – Implementation of an official inspection sticker program to better coordinate boater patrols on the Hudson River to avoid boaters from being stopped repeatedly is being proposed by US Senator Charles Schumer.

He called on the US Coast Guard to meet with the Marine Trades Association of New York, Boating Safety Advocates and local law enforcement to advance discussions.

The lawmaker said creating a sticker system that is recognized by all levels of law enforcement has the support of the boating community, and several Hudson Valley law enforcement agencies have expressed an openness to participate in the system.

Schumer would like a meeting before the spring boating season to have the plan in place in a timely fashion.
