MID-HUDSON – A Kingston man and Pleasant Valley woman have been arrested and charged in domestic violence cases. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office arrested Frances Burkowske, 23, following an incident with her ex-boyfriend. She allegedly assaulted the man and damaged his car by ramming it. Their two-year-old daughter was with the victim in the vehicle at the time. He suffered minor injuries and his car sustained extensive damage. Burkowske was charged with two counts of felony criminal mischief, and misdemeanors of assault, criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment. The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office recommended $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, but after being arraigned in Pleasant Valley Town Court, she was released on her own recognizance with a temporary order of protection issued on behalf of the adult victim. In the Ulster County case, Christopher Christoforos, 39, of Madison Avenue in Kingston, was charged in connection with an alleged assault on his girlfriend at the Lake Motel in Ulster Park. The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office said that during a domestic dispute, he allegedly struck the female victim several times in the head with his fists and then with a glass bottle. He also allegedly restrained her from leaving and dragged her by her hair. A witness told police he demanded the woman to be quiet or else the police would be called. When they arrived, he refused to listen to deputies’ direction and attempted to interfere with interviews before being arrested. Christoforos was charged with felony assault in the second degree and misdemeanors of coercion, unlawful imprisonment, criminal possession of a weapon and obstruction of governmental administration. He was released to reappear in Esopus Town Court. |
