Kingston police conduct ‘video mapping’ to fight crime

KINGSTON – Uniformed police officers in Kingston are going door to door to businesses and residences in a “video mapping” effort. They are mapping out where public and private video cameras are located.  Police Chief Egidio Tinti said they have been instrumental in solving crimes and identifying suspects in the past and mapping locations will be a good crime solving tool.

“Part of the role is that if we can access information faster by knowing directly where we have to go where a camera is located, I believe that that will aid investigators and detectives in getting the information any time there is a suspect that we need to track down or a witness that we need to come up with, so certainly it has its benefits to the city as a whole, but for our agency, it really does help us do a job more efficiently,” Tinti said.

The canvassing officers, who will always be in uniform and have proper ID, will offer assistance in the placement of cameras, motion lighting and other tips on making homes, vehicles and businesses safer.
