Senate passes Saland DNA database expansion

ALBANY – The State Senate passed a bill that would require persons convicted of all felonies and misdemeanors in New York to submit DNA samples.

At present, individuals convicted of all felonies and just some misdemeanors are required to do so.

Governor Cuomo proposed the expanded DNA databank. Senators Stephen Saland (R-Poughkeepsie) and Martin Golden (R-Brooklyn) sponsored the measure in their house.

The bill, which passed the Senate on Tuesday, was sent to the Assembly.
