Hospitals, DA launch “The ABC’s of Safe Sleeping” campaign

WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County District Attorney’s office and eight hospitals in the county have launched “The ABC’s of Safe Sleeping,” a campaign aimed at saving newborns from unsafe sleeping conditions.

In the last six years since the Westchester County Child Fatality Review Team was formed 26 deaths occurred among infants, all caused by unsafe sleeping environments.

In an effort to combat that trend, the safe-sleeping campaign was developed to inform and educate parents and caregivers. The primary component of the awareness campaign is a six minute video which explains why a baby sleeps safest alone, on its back and in a crib.

In addition to the video, the campaign will include a door hanger and poster with the safe sleeping message.

Participating hospitals include Hudson Valley Hospital Center, Lawrence Hospital Center, Westchester medical Center – Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, Northern Westchester Hospital, Phelps Memorial Hospital, St. John’s Riverside Medical Center, Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester, and White Plains Hospital Center.
