23 arrested in major Ellenville area drug bust

ELLENVILLE – Police in Ulster County culminated a 13 month investigation into drug trafficking in the southwestern part of the county with the arrests of 23 people.

Ellenville Police Chief Phillip Mattracion and Sheriff Paul Van Blarcum announced the arrests made in conjunction with the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team, the Ulster District Attorney’s Office and other area law enforcement agencies, executed search warrants in Ellenville and Wawarsing and arrested 23 people.

Mattracion said the investigation was a major joint effort.

“One of the benefits of having a local police agency is that we do come in contact with a lot of information, street level information, that is out there that is given to us on a daily basis, and when we come into that information we certainly work with our partners, especially the URGENT Task Force and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office,” he said.

Police seized heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, diverted pharmaceuticals and marijuana during the raids.

Arrested were:

  • Garvey Marmol, 27, also known as “Joker,” of Ellenville, on 15 drug counts; he was arrested two weeks ago on other drug charges;
  • Rene Ortiz, 33, also known as “Ray, of Ellenville, on six drug counts;
  • Christopher Negron, 23, of Ellenville, on four drug counts;
  • Jose Rodriguez, 30, also known as “Chops,” of Ellenville, on six drug counts;
  • Jordan Smith, 21, of Ellenville, on six drug counts;
  • Richard Figueroa, also known as “White Boy,” of Ellenville, on eight drug counts;
  • Vincent Giammichele of Wawarsing, on 10 drug counts;
  • Fatima Mandiville, 26, of Ellenville, on four drug counts;
  • Carlos Medina, 28, also known as “Los,” of Ellenville, on four drug counts;
  • Melinda Baker of Ellenville, on six drug counts;
  • Jyanique Serrano, 22, also known as “Nicki,” of Wawarsing, on 10 drug counts;
  • Iris Serrano, 34, of Ellenville, on 10 drug counts;
  • Bobbi Jo Fuller, 31, of Ellenville, on six drug counts;
  • Nicholas Giammichele, 28, of Kerhonkson, on three drug counts;
  • Juanita Velasquez-Amador, 46, of Ulster Heights, on seven drug charges and endangering the welfare of a child;
  • Erol Tuna, 28, of Ellenville, on six drug counts;
  • Lucas Beekman, 19, of Ellenville, on one drug count;
  • Harry Krom, 31, of Wawarsing, two drug counts;
  • Kenneth Chen, 24, of Ellenville, on one drug count;
  • Naja Mandiville, 21, of Ellenville, on two drug counts;
  • Sean Kennedy, 34, of Napanoch, on a weapons charge
  • Paul Acosta, of Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, on six drug charges;
  • Ernest Peraza, 35, of the Ulster County Jail in Kingston, on two drug charges.

 

Some 60 law enforcement officials from local and Ulster County agencies, as well as the US Marshal’s Service participated in the investigation.
