Hinchey’s wife gets jail time for felony DWI

Lee-Hinchey

ALBANY – The wife of Congressman Maurice Hinchey of Hurley, Allison Lee-Hinchey, was sentenced in Albany City Court Friday to 60 days in jail and three years probation, in addition to restitution, court fees and fines, by Judge Wukitsch in Albany City Court.

Lee-Hinchey, 50, must also have a mandatory interlock ignition device on her vehicle for three years after her release from custody, as well as a revocation of her New York driver’s license.

On January 18 at around 9 p.m., Lee-Hinchey was driving her car on Lark Street in the City of Albany when she rear-ended another vehicle. When police arrived, it was determined she was under the influence of alcohol and her blood alcohol content was .14 percent. Lee-Hinchey’s driver’s license had previously been suspended for another alcohol related conviction.

Albany District Attorney P. David Soares noted Lee-Hinchey’s license was suspended due to a prior driving while ability impaired conviction in another county. “Having not learned from that experience she operated a vehicle while intoxicated and then rear ended another car in Albany County. The citizens of this county will not tolerate drunk drivers putting their lives at risk.”

Soares said the sentence “reflects our tough stance on drunk drinking and driving.”

Rep. Hinchey is retiring from office at the end of this year.
