DEERPARK – A Deerpark youth, who was a front seat passenger in a car driven by another teen, was killed Tuesday evening when their car crashed head on into another vehicle, State Police at Middletown said. Daniel Garcia, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The driver, Christian Thomas, 16, of Westtown was attempting to pass a vehicle on Greenville Turnpike and struck another car head on at around 7:25 p.m. Thomas and the driver of the other car, Joanne Daly, 58, of Westtown, were transported to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis for treatment of their injuries. Thomas was transferred to Westchester Medical Center for surgery.

A State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and investigated the accident. Anyone who may have seen the accident is asked to call State Police at 845-344-5300.
