Schumer promises to push FEMA for as much aid as possible for New York

COLD SPRING – US Senator Charles Schumer is spending a rainy Labor Day Monday driving from one end of the region to the other to take a firsthand look at the flood damage from Hurricane Irene last week. Monday’s new rains threaten to create new flood conditions.

Schumer started his day in Cold Spring followed by stops at an onion farm in the Pine Island black dirt region and a tour of the flood ravaged area of Phoencia.

The senator said he will search for “every last dollar of federal aid” to help New York rebuild.

“The devastation in the Hudson Valley is unimaginable and it’s clear we need the full support of the federal government to help get things back on track.”

He is pushing to have Putnam County declared eligible for individual assistance.
