Senate candidate says actual FEMA funds need to flow now

WINDHAM – Republican US Senate candidate George Maragos toured the devastation of Ulster and Greene counties Sunday as he drove to the region and met with several impacted residents.

Maragos, currently the Nassau County comptroller, who wants to challenge Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand next year, was stunned at the degree of damage and destruction that he saw.

While the FEMA aid designations are good, he said money needs to flow to the communities and residents immediately.

“Here these people are sitting with all their businesses closed, their inventory gone, and they’re waiting for help and you and I know that help is not going to be forthcoming very quickly,” Maragos told MidHudsonNews.com

He was late in getting to some of his destinations Sunday because he hadn’t planned on being rerouted because of blocked off storm-damaged roads.
