Land deal conserves scenic acres overlooking Hudson

TOWN OF HIGHLANDS – Environmental group Scenic Hudson has conserved 72 acres overlooking the Hudson River in the Town of Highlands as the latest acquisition in its campaign to Save the Land That Matters Most.

The land locally known as Rose’s Camp, a summer bungalow colony in the early 20th century, is adjacent to Bear Mountain State Park, Scenic Hudson’s 140 acre Popolopen Ridge and undeveloped lands of the US Military Academy.

The newly preserved lands feature steep slopes, mature hardwood forest, rock outcroppings and wetlands, and sustains a diversity of wildlife.

“These 72 ‘must-save’ acres are central to vistas that have enchanted and inspired people for centuries,” said Steven Rosenberg, executive director of The Scenic Hudson Land Trust.
