Rockland woman wins $1 million in ‘Millionaire Madness’  game

TAPPAN – Carol Leonard of Tappan bought four lottery tickets on Valentine’s Day with money her husband had given her. One of those $5 “Millionaire Madness” tickets hit the jackpot of $1 million. The odds of that happening are one in 2.6 million.

“I was in shock. I took it to a co-worker to double check,” the 64-year-old mother of four and grandmother of 13, said Wednesday when she collected her ceremonial giant check from the State Lottery’s Yolanda Vega at the Tappan Mini Mart where she bought the ticket.

Leonard will receive her prize in 20 annual payments of $33,015 a year through 2030.

What will she do with her new found winnings? “I really have no plans for the money beyond a good set of pots and pans,” she said. But, with a big family, she said she will do whatever she can to help.

Leonard stops at the same mini mart every day for coffee after she drops her grandson on the school bus and is going back a winner now.
