Westchester lawmakers approve proposal for charter review

WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County Board of Legislators has approved creation of a citizen run county Charter Revision Commission.

County Legislator William Ryan proposed the commission noting the county charter has not undergone a complete review since it was first approved by voters in 1937.

“Today, a citizen-run charter review process will give the people an opportunity to recommend desirable changes to the design and operation of their government that meet current needs and those anticipated in the near future,” Ryan told fellow lawmakers.

Ryan’s complete plan, “Westchester Renewed,” is an overall effort to examine and evaluate the role of county government as the state’s administrative partner for the delivery of state-mandated services, and as the regional provider of centralized and specialized services to the localities.
