|
YONKERS – Police officers in Yonkers are credited with saving a woman’s life after the 42-year-old Yonkers resident jumped into the frigid waters of the Hudson River off the Yonkers City Pier just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. When police were called to the scene, they found an unoccupied car still running at the pier. Police Officer Richard Meyers located the woman in the 39 degree water at the end of the pier. She was semi-conscious at the time and was slipping under the water. Officer Mark Wisner deployed a rescue rope to the woman and Officers Joseph Zadarozny and Frank Califano assisted in getting it around her arms and secured it to her waist. With the aid of other officers, she was pulled from the water safely and transported to a local hospital where she was last listed in stable condition and is expected to survive the exposure, police said. |
