Late season snow leads to accidents

MID-HUDSON/CATSKILLS – Snow accumulated fast in the region Monday morning with slippery conditions resulting in vehicles sliding on road surfaces.

Interstate 84 westbound between exit 3 and exit 1 in the Town of Wawayanda was closed around 10 a.m. due to several jackknifed tractor-trailer trucks.

Route 23 from Route 32 to Route 23B in the Town of Cairo was closed at mid-morning due to an auto crash. It has since been re-opened.

Other roads had slow going. During the morning commute, motorists traveling eastbound from central Orange County started out in snow, but the precipitation turned to rain in the Newburgh are. It late turned to all snow.

The precipitation is supposed to ease up and stop later in the day.
