Ulster lawmakers to hold forum on hydrofracking

KINGSTON – The Government Operations and Environmental Services Committee of the Ulster County Legislature will hold an official committee sponsored forum on the issue of hydraulic fracturing in the region.

Similar to committee hearings held in Sullivan County, the committee has invited Catskill Mountainkeeper, the Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York and state DEC officials to participate in the session planned for some time in May and held at Ulster County Community College.

Committee Chairman Brian Shapiro said the forum will be an opportunity for legislators and the public to become educated on the socioeconomic and environmental issue “that may impact our area for decades to come.”
